Self-check the 46 basic hiragana
Double-sided cards
Print at actual size, with duplex set to flip on the long edge. Backs are mirrored across the page, so each reading is behind its kana. Try the first two pages on scrap paper before printing the full deck; printer alignment varies.
Fold-over cards
Print single-sided, cut each wide rectangle, then fold on the center line. The kana and reading end up on opposite faces.

Import into Anki
- Download the tab-separated text file. In Anki, choose File → Import.
- Choose the Basic note type; map Kana to Front and Reading to Back. The third field is an optional spelling cue.
- For reverse cards, put both the reading and spelling cue on the question side. Avoid automatic Basic-and-reversed cards for sets containing same-sound pairs such as お / を.
- Start with a small set. Preview several imported cards before studying.
These are original draft cards, not a reviewed pronunciation deck. Shared decks can use different romanization or spelling conventions; inspect their examples before choosing one.
Other apps
CSV and plain tab-separated text hold the same kana, reading and cue. A converter changes letters into kana; it does not translate meanings.
How to study hiragana with flash cards
- Try to recall before turning. Use Again when you needed the answer.
- Read the correction and compare the model. Missed cards return later in the same round.
- After recall, use reading practice with these characters in words.
The reports are yours, not a measured score. Anki handles review across days; this page handles a round now.

Can I print only my set?
Yes. Choose a row or a few characters, preview, then save the PDF. It uses the cards on this page, including a one-off set.
Can I use small-kana combinations?
Choose 33 combinations to practice them in this deck. This does not change your saved study set.
Are there word or picture cards?
These cards teach kana forms and readings. Reading practice supplies words and sentences. Picture cards are not available.
